How to cook with oils

It can be confusing in the grocery store to know which type of oil is best for our health.

Recently coconut oil has been a hot topic and you can find coconut in just about anything. Coconut oil has been shown to raise our good cholesterol, our HDL, the medium-chain triglycerides which are in coconut oil. However, they also will slightly raise your LDL or bad cholesterol. It is important to make sure that we’re not using coconut oil as your primary fat or cooking oil.

You should be getting a good blend of olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed, flax, canola oils any of the plant-based oils that are available.

Peanut oil is an oil that can be used to cook at higher temperatures. If you are frying or sauteeing something very hot it’s better to use an oil that has a lower smoke point; olive oil would not be recommended for this. Olive oil is an oil that should be used for low-temperature cooking.
